MANILA, Philippines – Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) has granted provisional approval of toll rate adjustments for the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) and Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx) starting January 1.

TRB spokesperson Julius Corpuz said NLEx operator Manila North Tollways Corporation (MNTC) and SCTEx operator Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) have earned the nod of the TRB to adjust their current toll rates by 11 and 34 percent, respectively, by next year.

Following the TRB's decision, NLEx toll rate for Class 1 vehicles like cars, jeepneys, pickups and vans will be adjusted from P2.13 to P2.38 per kilometer while SCTEx's will be adjusted from P2 to P2.67.

Motorists who will use the 84-kilometer NLEx from Balintawak in Quezon City to Dau in Pampanga will be charged P195 from the current rate of P174.

Meanwhile, users of the SCTEx going to Tarlac City from the Mabalacat (Clark, Pampanga) Interchange will be charged P117 from the usual rate of P88 for the 44-kilometer expressway, and those going to Subic will be charged P134 from the present rate of P100 for the 50-kilometer toll road.

TRB's approval of the NLEx and SCTEx toll hikes came a day after it approved the implementation of the initial toll rate for the rehabilitated South Luzon Expressway (SLEx) from Alabang in Muntinlupa City to Sto. Tomas town in Batangas province, which is 297 percent higher than the current rates.
