SINGAPORE (via PLDT) -- Former Senator Manuel "Mar" Roxas will go to Taiwan next week to "put closure" to the spat between Manila and Taipei over the deportation of Taiwanese nationals to mainland China, President Benigno Aquino III said here on Thursday.

Aquino said both sides were now moving towards resolving the dispute, which led Taiwan to tighten its visa requirements for Filipino workers. A visit by Roxas would hopefully tie up any
remaining loose ends, the president said.

"Basically, we have already explained our side. They've also explained their side and there were talks on how to resolve the issue. I think both sides are moving towards the resolution of this issue," Aquino told reporters.

"We are continuing the dialogue wherein we would finally put the issue to rest, so that there would be closure," he added.

Hours after Malacanang announced that the immigration chief who allowed the deportations had been replaced, Taiwan ordered its de facto embassy in Manila to delist one of the new visa requirements it imposed on Filipino workers.

Taiwan also invited Roxas to make a return visit next week to Taipei.

"I think [Roxas'] first visit helped in preventing the this spat from growing further. So this second [visit] will put closure. We expect this issue to be closed finally," Aquino said.
