MANILA, Philippines (PNA) — Department of Justice (DoJ) Secretary Leila De Lima on Friday warned persons spreading bomb text jokes or similar messages that they face prosecution under the country's laws. She said such persons are liable for prosecution under the country's anti-terrorism law or human security act if they persist doing such behavior.
"We will be exploring the possibility of temporary in-house detention of individuals making bomb threats in jest or otherwise, by security personnel of commercial establishments and buildings, public utility terminals and stations, including the LRT and MRT, in the same way that such acts of irresponsible declarations are presently treated in our airports. This will give our law enforcers, including private security personnel of private establishments, the necessary time to ascertain whether a threat is imminent and (whether) the subject individual an actual source of (the) threat,"the DoJ chief added.
De Lima said the move is in-line with the order of President Benigno S. Aquino III to create a unit who will go after persons who persist in sending bomb text jokes in the wake of the bus bombing last Tuesday in Makati City which claimed the lives of five innocent civilians and wounded 13 others.
