Nino Canaleta capped a 22-point performance with 4 of 4 shooting from 3-point range in the fourth
quarter and James Yap added 13 points off the bench to power B-Meg Derby Ace to a 92-73 romp over
Meralco Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.

After a scoreless third quarter, Canaleta collected 12 points in the fourth and his flurry of
three-point shots helped the defending champion Llamados pull away from the rallying the Bolts on
the way the their seventh victory in 13 games that kept them at fourth spot heading into the final
week of the 2010-11 PBA Philippine Cup.

As a team, Derby Ace went 7 of 19 from the trifecta zone with Canaleta making six of seven
attempts.

“KG had another big game tonight. He delivered when we needed to score. Sana magtuloy-tuloy
na,” said Derby Ace coach Jorge Galent, referring to Canaleta, who went 8-of-11 overall from the
field en route to his highest output in a Purefoods/Derby Ace uniform.

Jonas Villanueva also scored 13 points and had eight assists while Don Allado had 10 for the
Llamados, who swept their games schedule against Meralco.

Interestingly, Villanueva, Allado and Canaleta also came off the bench.

Two free throws and a jumper by Mac Cardona gave Meralco a 36-26 lead in the second quarter before
Derby Ace went on a 13-2 run over the next two minutes. Villanueva anchored that run with nine
points as the Llamados built a 15-point lead.

Halftime was 53-42 for the Derby Ace which also defeated the Bolts 75-71 in their first meeting
last Oct. 20.

Cardona, who was hurting on both feet, came off the bench to lead Meralco with 22 points before
fouling out with 3:13 to play.

Chris Ross had 13 and seven assits while Asi Taulava tallied 10 and 16 rebounds for the Bolts, who
picked up its second straight loss and fell into a tie with idle Alaska at fifth and sixth spots
with their 6-7 records.

The game was highly physical in the early going and it got the best of Derby Ace starting guard PJ
Simon, who was ejected for throwing the ball at Meralco guard Ogie Menor close to four minutes into
the opening quarter.

“I think losing PJ was a blessing in disguise for us because our guards played well,” Gallent
said.

The Llamados stayed in control in the third quarter as both teams shot poorly. Derby Ace went 6 of
16 from the field (37 percent) while Meralco converted just 6 of 21 shots (28 percent).

Canaleta opened the fourth with successive treys as Derby Ace extended their lead to 76-63 and the
Bolts never got closer than 10 points the rest of the way. (DBC)
