MANILA, Philippines – Filipino boxer Rey Saludar has advanced into the finals of the 16th Asian Games after beating his Japanese opponent on Wednesday at the Foshan Gymnasium n Guangzhou, China. Saludar overwhelmed Japanese Katsuaki Susa, 13-4, in their semifinals match in the Men's 52 kg.
The Filipino unleashed a barrage of punches, especially in the 2nd round when he connected 7 clean hits against Katsuaki's 2.
Both Rounds 1 and 3 were each scored 3-1 in favor of Saludar.
Also scheduled to fight on Wednesday is Saludar’s younger brother Victorio, and lone Filipina boxing representative Annie Albania.
Victorio will face Birzhan Zhakypov of Kazakhstan in the Men’s 46-49 kg, while Albania is scheduled to fight Aya Shinmoto of Japan.
Both of them are already assured of at least a bronze medal. They will be fighting to advance into the championship round.
