DALLAS — Manny Pacquiao’s conditioning coach expressed the belief that Antonio Margarito is having problems getting down to the catch weight of 150 lbs and that even if the Mexican makes it during Friday’s official weigh in, he won’t be as competitive come fight night. “I think he is overweight, and is grossly emaciated and gaunt that’s why he is wearing sunglasses and he doesn’t want to give away the signs in his eyes but he looks terrible to me. It looks like he left everything in the ring,” said Alex Ariza, who is revving up Manny Pacquiao.
Ariza had spotted Margarito doing evening roadwork some days back and the Los Angeles-raised Colombian said it was highly unusual for somebody who claims he has everything under control to be running at that ungodly hour.
“He doesn’t look good to me. I have been in the business a long time and I know what fighters look like at the scales.”
Still, Ariza said Margarito will make 150 lbs but is unsure if he will offer stiff resistance.
“He is going to make the weight but he is going to kill himself to make that weight. He’s going to look like a shell.”
Ariza said Pacquiao will breeze through the weigh in scheduled at 5 p.m. at Cowboys Stadium and should tip the scales at 148 lbs.
