MANILA---National University continued its surprising form as the Bulldogs upset the reigning NCAA champion San Beda Red Lioins, 83-80, yesterday in the 2011 FilOil-Flying V Hanes Preseason Premier Cup.
Rookies Bobby Ray Parks and Robby Celiz knocked in back-to-back triples in the dwindling seconds as the Bulldogs clinched their second straight victory at the FilOil-Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Parks capped a 20-point effort with the game-tying trey, 80-80, before Celiz drilled the game-winner with just 5.4 seconds left. The 17-year-old son of former seven-time PBA Best Import Bobby Parks, also had eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block.
Earlier, Karim Abdul had 23 points and 17 rebounds while Clark Bautista came through with a key triple in extra time as the University of Santo Tomas nipped San Sebastian, 104-102, in double overtime.
Far Eastern University, meanwhile, nearly blew a 20-point advantage in the last nine minutes before salvaging a 66-61 victory over Adamson for its first triumph.
