MANILA, Philippines — UAAP Most Valuable Player RR Garcia, Kiefer Ravena, Bobby Ray Parks and Greg Slaughter are among the 30 players invited to join the tryouts for the Philippine basketball to the SEA Games starting this Saturday at the FEU gym in Morayta, Manila.

Coach Norman Black said he wants to see the four players join the team since they have excellent chances of getting slots in the team that will try to the SEA Games gold for the ninth straight time.

This year’s edition will be hosted by Palembang, Indonesia in November.

"Norman is very happy with the selection of players that we have invited. We will field players who are 22 years and under," said SBP executive director Noli Eala.

Also invited to the squad are current Smart Gilas Pilipinas member Aldrech Ramos, Garcia's teammate at Far Eastern University, and Japeth Aguilar, who recently attended practice of the PBA's Talk N' Text Tropang Texters.

Other notables include Fil-Am center Norbert Torres, who teamed up with Garcia in the PH U-18 team in 2008, La Salle stars Simon Atkins and Sam Marata and Ateneo's Eman Monfort.

University of Cebu's 6-foot-9 center June Mar Fajardo was also invited to join the tryouts but it’s highly unlikely since he's concentrating on his studies in Cebu.

Even Chris Tiu, the co-captain of the Gilas team, has offered to join the team, Eala said.

Tiu was left out in the final lineup of the 2007 Philippine squad composed of then-PBL cagers and backed by Harbour Centre.

"He wants to suit up for this team because he didn't play in the 2007 team and he's eager to add a SEA Games gold medal to his resume," said Eala.

Meanwhile, Smart Gilas battles Syria's Al Wahda in the semifinals of the 22nd Dubai Invitational tournament at the Al Alhi Club gym in Dubai.
