MANILA, Philippines — Having to wait for over a week to know their finals opponent, the AirAsia-Philippine Patriots are trying very hard to stay focused and keep their physical conditioning in top form. Though they have a two-week rest before the finals, Patriots assistant coach Glenn Capacio said Friday they are still upbeat of their back-to-back title bid in the AirAsia ASEAN Basketball League.
"The team is doing fine although we still don't know which team we'll face in the finals," said Capacio. "Right now, we're just focusing on our conditioning as well as fine tuning our plays."
The Patriots, who swept the Kuala Lumpur Dragons in their best-of-three semis series, will face either the Chang Thailand Slammers or the Singapore Slingers in the finals on Feb. 9.
The Slammers and the Slingers dispute the last finals berth tomorrow at the Thai-Japanese Association gym in Bangkok.
Thailand took the series opener in overtime, 81-76, last Jan. 24 at home but the Slingers forced a rubber match after hacking out a 90-76 rout of the Slammers on Tuesday at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
