Despite Pharex's transfer to the Philippine Basketball Association Developmental League, its team governor Ding Camua still hopes to see the revival of the Philippine Basketball League (PBL) in the future. "Puwede pa ang PBL, maybe someday. There was nothing that we can do. Maybe someday, there would be other companies interested in reviving the league," Camua said in an interview.
Camua, the PBL chairman, also had nothing but praise for Sports Vision and appointed PBL commissioner Nolan Bernardino for their efforts in trying to get the league back on its feet.
"They did very well in helping us, but too bad our partners went on a different direction. I couldn't do anything about it," Camua said.
Camua's statements came on the heels of the transfer of Pharex along with Cobra Energy Drink, FCI-ANI and Café France to the PBA Development League — days after announcing their participation in the PBL which was supposed to open on March 12 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Cobra Energy Drink was said to be the first team to transfer to the D-League, with Pharex, FCI-Ani and Café France following suit.
Camua said he was left with no choice but to join the other teams in the PBA D-League.
"Other teams backed out. We can’t go on with the league without six teams. For the meantime, there is really no conflict of interest, so we decided to go to the D-League. It was no big deal for us," said Camua.
He said that he felt sad for the PBL since they also made an effort to revive the league. "Sayang ang mga efforts namin but there will always be other opportunities for us. We see it as an opportunity to play, that's all."
Camua said that it is important for Pharex to continue its basketball program, since at least five players from the team are already playing in the PBA.
"We feel that we are one of the best sources of talents in the PBA because we have a good program," said Camua.
