Ray Parks

MANILA, Philippines — The National University lost a potential star in Ray Parks after the 6-foot-3 guard reportedly agreed to play for Georgia Tech in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) – a member US NCAA Division I.

According to Georgia Tech’s official athletic site ramblinwreck.com, the son of former seven-time PBA Best Import Bobby Parks has already signed a letter of intent to play for Georgia Tech.

In fact, Georgia Tech coach Paul Hewitt has expressed delight over the addition of the 6-foot-3 guard.

Many were expecting Parks to strut his wares for the Bulldogs in the coming UAAP season after NU recruited him early this year in the hope of improving their performance after finishing with a 7-7 record.

He saw action in the Bulldogs' title conquests in the Father Martin Cup Division II and the Unigames in Dumaguete.

Parks also had a stint with the Philippine team that placed ninth in the 3-on-3 competitions of the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore and attended several practices of the Smart Gilas Pilipinas team under Serbian mentor Rajko Toroman.

The Bulletin tried to contact NU athletic director Junel Baculi for some comments but failed to make a response.

Georgia Tech went 23-13 last season including a mere 7-9 record in the ACC but still earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament where they lost Ohio State in the second round.
