DEFENDING champion University of Santo Tomas battles a dangerous Adamson side today as the semifinals of the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament gets going at The Arena in San Juan, with the Tigresses favored to prevail. The Tigresses swept the Lady Falcons in two matches in the eliminations and finished as the No. 2 team, clinching a twice-to-beat edge, although the Lady Falcons have not been entirely written off in their 4 p.m. battle.
The other semis match pitting eliminations topnotcher La Salle and fourth-seed Ateneo will be held on Saturday.
The Tigresses will advance to the finals, where they are billed to face the Lady Archers, if they win today.
Adamson will go into the match on a high after scoring an easy 25-14, 25-21, 25-16 win over Ateneo last Sunday to emerge as the No. 3 seed in the playoffs.
The Tigresses, on the other hand, battled tooth and nail with La Salle before dropping a 20-25, 27-25, 25-18, 22-25, 12-15 decision in their blockbuster showdown that capped the eliminations.
"As long as Angela (Benting) and Pau (Soriano) play well anew, palagay ko may chance kami," said Adamson coach Dulce Pante.
