ALTHOUGH there’s no scheduled match at the playing court, La Salle stakes its unbeaten slate in the boardroom.

The fate of the beleaguered Lady Archers will depend on the decision of this morning’s UAAP Board meeting whether there will be sanctions on their two reserve players, who violated the league rules for playing in an invitational tournament while the season is ongoing.

Meanwhile, defending champion University of Santo Tomas tries to snap a two-game losing streak against National University, while Ateneo seeks to extend its winning run to four as it tackles University of the Philippines as women’s volleyball action resumes today at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

La Salle is facing forfeiture of some of its matches in the first round, where the Taft-based spikers completed a seven-game sweep, due to the ‘unauthorized participation’ of reserve setter Carmela Garbin and Clarisse Yeung in the Vikings Cup at World Citi College.

The Lady Archers have already suspended Garbin and Yeung.

“We don’t want to second guess the (UAAP) Board. If there will be sanctions, we will accept it,” said La Salle athletic director Edwin Reyes.

Garbin played four matches in the first round, while Yeung was fielded in three times.

While the Lady Archers’ hold of the lead will be based on the decision by the UAAP Board, the Tigresses are still in second place, for now, with a 6-2 card.

La Salle, the five-time champion, is unbeaten in eight assignments.

With the injuries suffered by some of its key players led by team captain Aiza Maizo, UST struggled big time in the past two weeks.

After nipping the Lady Bulldogs in five sets, the Tigresses suffered straight set losses to the Lady Archers and the Lady Eagles.
