MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino lamented yesterday he would no longer enjoy a holiday break this Christmas now that he is Chief Executive. But the President, a bachelor at 50, was quick to say that it is okay because his sacrifices would be for the Filipinos.
“When I was a congressman and then a senator, we had legislative breaks, there were a lot of them. Here in the executive department, we are on call 24/7,” the President said in his speech during the inauguration of the Calapan public market in Barangay San Vicente East, Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro.
“But I asked, when can I rest? The answer given to me was that I have six meetings on schedule on Christmas Day. I think we did not understand each other, I asked when I could rest and they gave me meetings. But it’s okay, as long your lives get better,” Aquino quipped.
The President, still without a girlfriend, said he would be spending time with his sisters and their families during the holidays.
