MANILA, Philippines (PNA) - Malacanang on Sunday called on bus operators in the metropolis to give a chance for the re-implementation of the number coding scheme of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) before carrying out their planned strike on Monday.

"Tingnan muna natin ang magiging resulta; hintayin muna natin na ma-implement iyong plano para makita natin kung may kailangang baguhin sa scheme [Let's wait for its implementation so we'll see if there are changes that should be made]," Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said in an interview over State-run Radyo ng Bayan.

Undersecretary Valte noted that the bus operators have already expressed their sentiments to MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino.

She said the MMDA will deploy additional traffic enforcers on the first day of the re-implementation of the number coding scheme on passenger buses on Monday, Nov. 15.

The MMDA earlier warned bus operators they could lose their franchises if they push through with their plan to go on strike.

The re-implementation of the number coding on public utility buses (PUBs) is aimed at decongesting Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) and other major thoroughfares in Metro Manila.

The number coding for buses will be enforced from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
