Fifteen of the 16 Filipino welders rescued from the tsunami-stricken Ishinomaki in Northeast Japan have chosen to remain in Japan and have been immediately reemployed, according to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

“Labor Attache to Tokyo (Clifford) Paragua reported that eight of the 15 OFWs have already been rehired by Tokai House Co. Ltd. in Kanagawa Prefecture through Setochuo Tech Cooperative, an accepting organization,” Labor Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz said.

“The POLO, through Welfare Officer (Luz) Talento, is also negotiating with the accepting organization to defray the cost of the eight workers’ membership with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, while Labor Attache Paragua is also negotiating with for the hiring and re-employment of the remaining seven workers,” she added.

The 16 OFWs who had been working for Yamanishi Corporation, a shipbuilding company, are Canoy, Julieto Mediano; Ibabo, Raffy Galindez; Nengasca, Malvin Gomez; Brutas, Malvin Baltazar; Gonzaga, Manuel Jr. Alao; Quiñones, Carlo Querol; Pasinag, Joser Dadap; Hugo, Manuel Jr. Landiza; Brutas, Michael Baltazar; De Guia, John Mark Famisaran; Jaucian, Jacob Pelaez; Bela Lito Jr. Elicana; Famorcan, Rodney Falla; Gonzaga, Genner Alao; Javier, Christian Sotto; and Benalla, Romnick Awa.

They were sent to Japan through a sending organization accredited by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.
