MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Justice has placed Erlinda Yambao-Ligot and her brother, Edgardo Yambao, on the immigration watch list, restricting their right to travel while the Senate investigation into corruption in the military is ongoing. “This office, under careful evaluation, finds the request of Sen. Teofisto Guingona III for the issuance of a WLO [Watch List Order] against Erlinda Yambao-Ligot and Eduardo T. Yambao meritorious,” said the DoJ in a Feb. 24 order signed by Assistant Chief State Counsel Pastor Benavidez.’
Ligot, her husband, former military comptroller Lt. Gen. Jacinto Ligot, and her brother are facing charges of unexplained wealth before the Sandiganbayan.
The immigration order was based on a Senate resolution directing the Blue Ribbon and other committees to investigate, in aid of legislation, the circumstances surrounding the plea bargain agreement between government prosecutors and retired Maj. Gen. Carlos Garcia who is charged with plunder.
Government prosecutors, meanwhile, have asked the Sandiganbayan for a writ of attachment on the assets of Ligot, his wife and relatives to prevent them from transferring these to other parties while their forfeiture case is pending.
