MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang yesterday asked the public to abide by the latest warnings issued by authorities on Mt. Bulusan in Sorsogon and avoid venturing into the danger zone around the restive volcano. The Palace also appealed to the people to remain resilient amid the twin natural calamities, including rains in Northern Luzon, in the country, saying that the government would exert all efforts to ease the plight of the affected residents.
Secretary Herminio Coloma of the Presidential Communications Operations Office said that authorities have banned people from going to the four-kilometer danger zone of Mt. Bulusan after an ash explosion last weekend.
Coloma cited the precaution even as he admitted that there are no permanent residents living in the danger area of the volcano since 2007.
Aquino said that government agencies have been mobilized to extend assistance to the affected people in provinces in North Luzon, including relief assistance to families living in temporary shelters.
Local disaster mitigation authorities have also been alerted to ensure the protection of people near Mt. Bulusan amid concerns of increased volcanic activity, according to the President.
