MANILA, Philippines - No tropical cyclone is expected to affect the country this week but the eastern sections of Luzon and the Visayas will continue to experience cloudy skies with scattered rains in the next three to five days, the weather bureau reported yesterday.

Robert Sawi, chief of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), said rains would still prevail over the Cagayan Valley and in the provinces of Aurora, Quezon, Camarines, Albay, Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Samar and Leyte.

Sawi said the northeast monsoon or hanging amihan was affecting Northern and Central Luzon while wind convergence was prevailing over Southern Luzon and the Visayas.

Pagasa said Northern and Central Luzon would experience mostly cloudy skies with light rains while Southern Luzon and Eastern Visayas would have mostly cloudy skies with light rains.

Southern Luzon and Eastern Visayas, on the other hand, would be mostly cloudy with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms.

The rest of the country, meanwhile, would be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rains or thunderstorms.

Pagasa said moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast would prevail over Luzon and the Visayas and coastal waters along these areas would be moderate to rough.

Elsewhere, winds would be light to moderate coming from the east to northeast with slight to moderate seas, it said.
