San Miguel Beer's prospective replacement import Jason Davis easily passed the height measurement test conducted at the Philippine Basketball Association office on Tuesday.

Davis, a product of the Sacramento State Hornets, was measured at 6-foot-2 and 9/16. He is currently on standby status, according to Beermen coach Ato Agustin.

"We haven't decided yet whether Davis will play or bigyan pa namin ng chance si David Young," Agustin told GMA News in a telephone interview.

Young, a former draft pick of the Seattle Supersonics, has yet to lead his team to a victory after playing four games and averaging 22 points per game.

As a member of the Hornets, Davis averaged 7.4 points and 4.3 rebounds in 21 games in the 2007-2008 season.

A player with a decent touch from the perimeter, Davis played in Portugal where he averaged 14.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game, and was selected for the Portuguese League All-Star Game two years ago.

The Beermen are hoping to keep their flickering hopes alive by tapping his services.

But a source from the league said Davis can also be utilized by the Beermen in the long run, especially if the team gets eliminated early in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

The season-ending PBA Third Conference will impose a handicapping system where teams which will finish higher in the first two conferences will be allowed to field in the smallest import not taller than 6-foot-2.

Teams which will finish at the lower half of the standings at the end of the two conferences will parade taller imports with a height limit of 6-foot-6. Squads which will end up right in the middle of the pack will be allowed imports of at least 6-foot-4.
