MANILA---Marcus Douthit of Smart Gilas was told “to focus on the game” after he was fined P5,000 while San Miguel Beer’s Lordy Tugade got away with a lesser penalty following their altercation Saturday.
Commissioner Chito Salud admonished Douthit, the national team’s naturalization candidate, and Tugade, who got away with a P1,000 fine after hearing their sides at the PBA office yesterday.
Salud said the 6-foot-10 Douthit was penalized for extending an elbow, while Tugade was slapped with a technical for a second motion during a heated moment of the game won by Smart Gilas, 109-68.
Salud said he upgraded Douthit’s misdemeanor during the second quarter to flagrant-1 foul, which escaped the referees who worked the game.
The commissioner also meted out fines to Rain Or Shine coach Yeng Guiao and forward Beau Belga.
Belga was fined P5,000 for a flagrant-1 foul on Text ’N Text import Paul Harris while Guiao was fined P1,600 for shouting at the refs during TNT’s 99-78 win over Rain or Shine Sunday.
