Barangay Ginebra yet again was off to a scrambling start.

Make right adjustments in the course of the game the Kings did this time, though, enabling the team to check a two-game skid.

Ginebra went on a decisive turnaround in the second quarter and sustained the momentum in the final half as the Kings mauled the Powerade Tigers, 107-92, in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Araneta Coliseum Friday night.

The Kings stopped the Tigers’ hot start, dominating the last three quarters in notching a second win in four starts.

Ginebra put the game away in the third period, giving coach Jong Uichico the luxury of resting his core players in the final canto.

“Long ways to go. We need to keep pace with the teams on top. We’re still trying to get
there,” said Ginebra coach Jong Uichico

“Three games ng di kami maka-start ng maganda. We don’t know why it’s happening. It happened in our last two games and it happened again tonight. Kailangan itong i-correct,” Uichico also said.

Import Nate Brumfield said it's all about defense.

“We need to come out playing tough defense. We set the tone in this game stopping them in the second quarter,” said Brumfield.

Brumfield scattered 32 points and the Kings put a good defensive job on Russel Carter, holding him down to a personal conference-low of seven.

The whole Powerade team melted down after outplaying Ginebra in the first period.

The Tigers suffered a third straight loss and their fourth in five games in all. This could prompt the team to start looking for an import replacement.

The Kings turned the game around in the second quarter, erasing an eight-point deficit and taking a 47-44 lead at the half.

Brumfield went 4-of-4 from the field and 5-of-5 from the stripe for 13 points while Mark Caguioa added nine as the Kings picked up their game in the second canto, building the momentum for the breakaway win.

The Kings dished out a balanced offense with five local players putting in at least eight points each.

Gary David drilled in a game-high 36 points but didn’t get support from his teammates.

Powerade jumped the gun on Ginebra, shooting 57.9 percent from the field in the first 12 minutes of play.

Then the Tigers sagged and collapsed.
