CLOSING a chapter also means opening a new one.

After giving away most of their battle-tested veterans, the San Miguel Beermen are looking forward to a new start.

Gone are former main man Danny Seigle, who brought the franchise tons of championships during his prime in the early 2000s, ace gunner Dondon Hontiveros, big man Dorian Pena and Paul Artadi.

Seigle, Hontiveros and even Pena were three of the steady faces of the winningest franchise in the league for the past decade.

From hereon, the Beermen will rely on three up-and-coming rookies, who have the potential to bring them to greater heights.

Last year’s top three picks from the draft Nonoy Baclao, Rabeh Al-Hussaini and Rey Guevarra have joined the Beermen as the key pieces for the franchise’s rebuilding process.

San Miguel Beer coach Ato Agustin said that they may have given away their proven stars but at the same time, he sees a bright future ahead for their new acquisitions.

‘’Although this trade will not be a quick fix for the team, we believe that Rabeh Al Hussaini, Nonoy Baclao and RJ Guevarra will slowly but surely be molded into the San Miguel system,’’ said Agustin of the three new faces on his squad. ‘’This is a rebuilding process for us right now.’’

The trio will join an already talented San Miguel squad boasting of multi-awarded veterans such as Arwind Santos, Jay Washington, Danny Ildefonso and Alex Cabagnot to form a good blend of youth and experience for the Beermen.

Agustin also admitted that parting ways with the three former San Miguel reliables hasn’t been easy as their past accomplishments and contributions to the team will never be disregarded.

‘’It will be very hard and with a heavy heart for us to part ways with Danny Seigle, Dorian Pena, Dondon Hontiveros and Paul Artadi, who have contributed immensely to our previous championships.’’

But the management believes that despite the deal being a sacrifice and a risk, it will certainly give everyone involved a good direction ahead.

‘’This sacrifice will not only benefit San Miguel and Air21 but also the players’ respective careers. Everyone here has a good future.’’
