JUST like most teams, Meralco coach Ryan Gregorio is upbeat of his revamped squad’s fighting chance coming into the Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup.

Gregorio said that with some changes in the line-up, the Bolts are a much-improved team with enough tools to really contend against the top teams after only one conference in the league.

Despite being a rookie team, Meralco still made it to the quarterfinals in the Philippine Cup, but was ousted by the B-MEG Derby Ace via a sweep.

This time, though, Gregorio feels that his team has enough materials that could get them into a higher level.

‘’Our team grew a lot from last conference. I believe that with the new players we got and the maturity of our players, we might be able to have good run, better than our finish in the All-Filipino,’’ said Gregorio.

The gutsy multi-titled mentor is also excited about Meralco’s prized new possession in spitfire Sol Mercado, who will form a deadly tag team with franchise star Macmac Cardona.

‘’It’s exciting to have Sol (Mercado). He would absolutely help us in a lot of ways. He and Macmac (Cardona) will be a great backcourt tandem and we’re excited to see that.’’

‘’They will certainly be our 1-2 punch with the rest of team following their lead.’’

In addition, the Bolts now have a more experienced and well-rounded lineup overall as they were able to fill certain gaps with their recent moves.

Meralco also got Reynel Hugnatan, Erick Rodriguez and reacquired Marlou Aquino to strengthen its ceiling and length.
