MANILA---The top squads in the PBA decided to plug holes in hiring their imports, with reigning champion Talk ‘N Text hoping that defense-oriented Paul Harris will help the Texters nail an import-flavored crown.

The Texters will parade Paul Harris in the coming Commissioner’s Cup, with all teams save for Air21 ready to unveil their reinforcements when the next conference opens on Feb. 18.

The 6-foot-3 Harris, playing out of Syracuse, has been practicing with the Texters since the Philippine Cup, which Talk ‘N Text won in six games over San Miguel Beer.

He was a second All-USA team member in 2006 during his high school years at Niagara Falls and Notre Dame Prep in Massachussetts.

“He may be the best defensive import we might see to have played here,” said Texters coach Chot Reyes of the 24-year-old Harris, who leads a deep offensive roster led by Jimmy Alapag, Jason Castro, Kelly Williams, Ryan Reyes and Ali Peek.

The Texters have yet to win a championship in an import-laden conference.

Barangay Ginebra signed 6-foot-3 bruiser Nathan Brumfield, who coach Jong Uichico says can play enough of an inside game to augment the Kings’ guard-heavy rotation.

Philippine Cup runner-up San Miguel signed up Ira Brown, who came in at 6-3 and 13/16 when officially measured by the Commissioner’s Office. Derby Ace enlisted another banger in 6-3 Robert Brown Jr.

Meralco, meanwhile, tabbed 2009 US NCAA Slamdunk champion Anthony Dandridge of the University of Mexico. Alaska hooked up with former Wake Forest player Larry Demetrius while Powerade tapped Russel Carter out of Notre Dame.

Rain or Shine tabbed Hassan Adams, the only import who boasts NBA credentials. Adams had stints with the New Jersey Nets and the Toronto Raptors.

Air21 has decided to replace 6-1 Jajuan Smith. Team manager Allan Gregorio said they are eyeing Alpha Bangura who played for Libya in the 2009 Fiba Africa Championship.
