Last Monday, Feb. 7, was a very busy day for the PBA.
Three important activities were on schedule at the PBA office in Libis, Quezon City, that day.
First on the agenda was the dispersal draft for the players displaced when Barako Bull took an indefinite leave of absence. Second was the PBA board meeting which aimed to resolve the proposal by TV coveror Solar Entertainment to transfer the telecast of the PBA games from Solar TV Channel 9, a VHF channel, to Studio 23, a UHF channel, for the 2011 second and third conferences. The last agenda for the day was a meeting between the PBA and prospective members of the PBA Developmental League, set at 3 pm.
Members of the press were invited by media bureau chief Willie Marcial to the PBA office at 2 p.m. for post-meeting briefings and interviews.

Ginebra’s Allan Caidic was about to leave while Meralco head coach Ryan Gregorio was inside the office of assistant media bureau Dave Coros when we arrived.
Ryan said he was there for the draft but didn’t really participate in the exercise.
“We have 18 players in the team, we don’t need anymore. I thought it was mandatory for all the head coaches to attend the draft that’s why I came,” said Ryan who had just taken in Sol Mercado from Rain or Shine.
The dispersal draft was done in only a few minutes, with only two players picked: Pong Escobal by B-Meg Derby Ace and Lordy Tugade by San Miguel Beer.

What we had anticipated to be a news-filled day went below expectations—two players drafted from the dispersal pool, no decision on the Solar proposal. Only the third item in the agenda was the saving grace.
No less than 14 teams—so far—are expected to join the D-League which will unfold next month.
Officer-in-charge Rickie Santos and Marcial asked the teams to submit their letter of intent to participate.
The two Lhuiullier teams—Cebuana Lhuillier and M-Lhuillier could not attend the meeting, as well as Toyota Otis and one unnamed applicant, but the 10 others were present. Hapee Toothpaste was represented by Bernard Yang, Powerade Tigers by JB Baylon and Ricky Dandan, Pacific Pipes by Bimbo Gaviola and Kenneth Duremdes Handyfix by Riley Winpeco, Ani-FCA by Roman Ong Jr, PC-Gilmore by Avelino Relucio, Maynilad by Enrico Lopez and Peejay Barua, Fitwell Pharmaceuticals Inc by BJ Manalo, Metro Pacific Tollways by Christopher Lizo and Ronald Dularte and Black Water by Parick Aquino.
