A former teammate of NBA superstar Jason Kidd is now being eyed by the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters to become their import in the Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup, which starts next month.

Hassan Adams, a second-round draft pick of the New Jersey Nets in the 2006 NBA Draft, is currently on top of the list of import choices of the Elasto Painters.

Rain or Shine assistant coach Caloy Garcia disclosed it to GMANews.TV.

“It was our assistant coach Mike Buendia, one of the team’s assistant coaches, who contacted the import’s agent. Our main concern now is that the import may not be in shape as he has been idle for a year. But once we bring him here, we will have a chance to get his condition back," said Garcia in a telephone interview.

Adams is a 6-foot-4 guard and an NBA journeyman. Aside from the Nets, he also had stints with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Toronto Raptors and the Los Angeles Clippers.

The former University of Arizona stalwart started eight games in his rookie NBA season. He had a career-high 16 points in the Nets’ game against the Boston Celtics on Nov. 29, 2006.

But Adams had his shares of off-court problems.

More than four years ago, Adams was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, forcing his collegiate team to suspend him in a Pac-10 tournament.
