BARANGAY Ginebra spitfire Mark Caguioa is quite upbeat about his squads’ chances against San Miguel Beer in their semifinal showdown. The 6’2” playmaker admitted that it would be an uphill climb against the Beermen.
But he is confident that the Gin Kings ready to give their foes a run for their money in their best-of-seven duel, which starts today at Araneta Colisuem.
‘’It’s going to be tough going up against San Miguel. Their size is going to be different. They are a strong team with good inside players and a lot of shooters, so it’s going to be tough to guard them,’’ said Caguioa, who stepped up his game in the quarterfinals to lead Ginebra to the Final Four.
‘’But even though they have the size, we got the quickness. We’re going to be a much better and a much more competitive team than the last two games we played them.’’
Even though San Miguel topped Barangay Ginebra on both occasions in the eliminations, 69-68, on Oct. 17, and 79-78 on Nov. 21, Caguioa believes that the Beermen know that the Gin Kings are also capable of beating them.
Caguioa thinks that San Miguel Beer would likewise have a tough time against them.
‘’I am pretty sure na naiisip din nila (San Miguel) na medyo mahihirapan din sila sa amin. Hindi naman sila nanalo nang 20 points nu’ng games namin. Mahirap isipin ‘yun na kung nanalo sila nang 20 points, puwedeng sabihin na ‘Oo, kayang kaya namin itong team na ito,’ pero the last two games na kinalaban namin sila, maski nanalo sila, of course, at the back of their heads, they know that we could beat them.’’
