Two-time Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight champion George St-Pierre (GSP) will once again return to his own backyard in Montreal, Canada, to face No. 1 contender Josh Koscheck the second time in UFC 124 this Sunday (Manila time). “GSP is one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world and Josh Koscheck is not the same fighter Georges fought last time. There is no doubt that this is a title fight between the two best 170-pounders in the world. Koscheck told the people of Montreal he’s going to walk into Georges’ hometown and take the title. This fight is going to blow the roof off the Bell Centre,” said UFC President Dana White. It can be recalled that during UFC 74 on August 27, 2007, GSP controlled Koscheck on the mat and earned a three-round unanimous-decision victory. Now that GSP has reclaimed his undisputed title, Koscheck wants to rewrite the script by winning this much-anticipated grudge match.
Since his last fight with GSP, Koscheck has already amassed a record of 6-2, with key wins over Dustin Hazelett, Chris Lytle and Anthony Johnson. He also secured his title shot with a decision win over Paul Daley, which took place during the promotion’s third trip to Montreal back in UFC113.
GSP, who visited his Filipino fans on September 23, on the other hand, is known to be a well-rounded fighter. Among the Canadian’s best fights are against BJ Penn and UFC hall-of-famer Matt Hughes.
