MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - Philippine boxing icon Emmanuel Pacquiao returned to Manila early Saturday morning with a hero's welcome, after winning the World Boxing Council (WBC) super welterweight title in the United States.

Pacquiao attributed his fresh victory to his family, fans and Filipinos and said he would perform his duty in Congress on Monday in an arrival statement at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

He expressed he is inclined to return to the 140-to 147-pound weight class for his next bout.

A report by local radio dzBB said Pacquiao was welcomed by his family and well-wishers including former Manila Mayor Jose Atienza Jr.

"Congratulations Sir Manny, we are proud of you, we love you!" read one of the welcome banners prepared by well-wishers.

After his arrival, Pacquiao departed for the New World Hotel in Makati City where he was to have breakfast with Philippine Vice President Jejomar Binay. He is also expected to go to Malacanang for a courtesy call on President Benigno Aquino III.

In his battle at the Cowboys Stadium in Texas, U.S.A. Last Sunday, Pacquiao pummeled Margarito for the World Boxing Council's super welterweight crown and made history as the first boxer to win titles in eight weight divisions.

It is reported that he will be conferred a congressional "medal of distinction" for his victory, and for bringing honor to the country.
