DALLAS — Finding somebody from the boisterous crowd Friday afternoon, Antonio Margarito made a slash-the-throat gesture, the only scary thing the Mexican did to deliver a message that he is out to beat up Manny Pacquiao. Aside from that universal gesture of victory that Margarito pulled off, he hardly made an impression to Pacquiao fans, let alone, members of Team Pacquiao.
Freddie Roach said “Margarito looked drawn, a little weak,” further fueling speculations the past few days that Margarito has been having a tough time getting rid of excess poundage.
Not only did Margarito look a bit famished and thin, those in attendance noticed that he was shielded by his entourage from the bright lights as he was seated, while Pacquiao was in a bubbly mood with nary a care in the world, opting to just stand, talk and exchange pleasantries with the personages who were just six degrees from him.
But Margarito denied that he was going through hell just to get rid of excess baggage leading up to the fight that has a catch weight of 150 lbs.
“I was eating everyday that’s why they saw me running (in the evening),” said Margarito as quoted by Spanish-speaking publicist Ricardo Jimenez. “I was just playing with two lbs all week long.”
Jimenez said Margarito “got up at 6:30 am this morning and was a little over 150 and then he got up at 9:30 and got everything right at 150 lbs.”
