MANILA—It's not just stamina that helped AC Green set the record for the most number of consecutive games played in the NBA.

And that’s one thing Green hopes to impart in his fifth visit here in Manila for the the 2011 Jr. NBA National Training Camp this weekend.

“It’s discipline, commitment, faith, good fortune and quality teammates. It’s a combination that takes place,” Green said in an interview with the media yesterday at the Marriott Hotel.

Green, who won three NBA championships with the LA Lakers, saw action in a phenomenal 1,192 straight games to earn the nickname “Iron Man.”

But the 6-foot-9 Green, now 47, hopes the top 50 Filipino high school players plucked from the Regional Selection Camps all over the country would be impressed by more than just his record.

“At the end of the day, you want to produce good players; you want to see them get better since they’ve been on this quest for months, you want their skills to improve,” said Green.

“But we also want to see a quality person. We want them to become stronger and confident in making decisions. That’s ultimately what we want to produce. You never know how long a career is going to go.”

Green also owns the distinction of winning back-to-back NBA championships with the legendary Magic Johnshon and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1987 and 1988 and and again in 2000 with the star tandem of Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal.

“I’m humbled and honored by it because I’m the only person who can say [I’ve won] a championship in different eras with great players like those,” said Green.

“It was great because you were part of a team that was not only good for a year, but a decade, and revolutionized basketball globally. Then the second generation, new millennium Lakers, was also very special. It’s super cool to be identified with that sense of winning.”
