AFTER Nonito Donaire Jr., Fil-Am boxing champion Ana “The Hurricane” Julaton takes her turn to make the country proud as she stakes her World Boxing Organization super-bantamweight title against American Franchesca Alcanter this Friday (Saturday, Manila time). The 10-round championship bout dubbed “The Return of the Hurricane,” will be beamed live from the Craneway Pavilion, Point Richmond in California simultaneously over TV5 and Aksyon TV 41 from 12 noon to 2 p.m.
The fight also marks the first major sports offering of Channel 41, the newly launched sports and news channel of TV5.
Boxing fans in Metro Cebu and Metro Davao can also watch the fight live over channel 29 of the Kapatid Network’s provincial station.
Julaton’s defense of her 122-lb belt comes almost a week after Donaire scored a second-round technical knockout of Mexican Fernando Montiel to wrest the World Boxing Council and WBO bantamweight crowns at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“I’m ready to go especially after going through the hardest training camp I ever had,” declared Julaton, 30, who prepared for the fight for about a month under Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach and with no less than former World Boxing Council light-flyweight champion Rodel Mayol as her regular sparring partner at the celebrated Wild Card gym in Los Angeles.
Julaton also sparred with bigger lady fighters, notably World Boxing Association super-featherweight contender Rhonda Luna, who proved a step slower than The Hurricane.
