CHITO Loyzaga has decided to remain as commissioner of the Philippine Sports Commission.

Loyzaga, a former basketball superstar in the Philippine Basketball Association, made the statement amid reports that he is being considered to replace Noli Eala, who quit his post as executive director of the Samahang Basketbol Ng Pilipinas.

Aside from Loyzaga, also mentioned as a possible replacement for Eala is former PBA Commissioner Renauld “Sonny” Barrios, and SBP deputy executive assistant Bernie Atienza.

“Stay put muna tayo dito. Nagtatrabaho naman tayo. I can say that it’s an honor and privilege that I am being considered. If they believe that I am the right person, I’m sure they will take steps to convince me,” Loyzaga added.

He added that nobody from the SBP has approached him for a formal offer.

Loyzaga is presently attending to his task as one of two chefs de mission for the 26th Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia.

He is set to leave this week for Bali, Indonesia to attend the SEA Games Federation Council meeting.

Atienza has earlier been recommended by Eala to succeed hiim and continue his unfinished task, specifically that of forming the national teams.

Eala resigned after three years with the SBP, saying that his will enable him to return to the corporate world. He is reportedly set to transfer to the San Miguel Corporation and will help handle its three teams in the PBA.

The SBP board of trustees will decide on Eala’s recommendation during its regular meeting on March 8.
