MANILA, Philippines — Even though they are no longer together, father-and-son Jack and Shane Mosley are still on speaking terms. One of the things that they have talked about of late was Manny Pacquiao and how to deal with the Filipino phenom on May 7 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
“Me and Shane done talked about that already,” the senior Mosley told fighthype but politely declined to elaborate.
While his celebrated son is coming off two lackadaisical performances, it is not wise to take him lightly.
“You can’t count him out. You can’t do that. I think he can win that fight (with Pacquiao),” said Jack, who parted ways with Shane several years ago.
Shane is now being trained by Naazim Richardson and the plan is for them to set up camp in Big Bear, California, for two months.
Pacquiao, according to Jack, will resort to running “once Shane hits him.”
“Once he hits him, he gonna start moving,” said the elder Mosley, who is actually not awed by what Pacquiao has done through the years.
“Pacquiao ain’t the greatest ever, but he’s been matched real good. (Top Rank head) Bob Arum knows to do a great job with his fighters and I have to give it to him. He knows how to match him up real good.”
Jack did not say it but it was evident he was referring to Pacquiao’s string of sensational wins over big-named opponents like Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto, Ricky Hatton and Erik Morales the last few years.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao’s adviser Mike Koncz said it’s green and go for the five-city promotional tour that kicks off February 10 at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles.
The next stops will be Las Vegas, New York, Washington and San Francisco.
“Manny has already okayed the schedule when I called from America,” said Koncz, who arrived in Manila only on Friday after taking care of business matters concerning his big boss.
