Perpetual Help clipped Arellano U, 25-15, 25-15, 25-15, to clinch the top seeding in the next round in the women’s division of the 86th NCAA volleyball tournament at the Emilio Aguinaldo College gym recently. But Arellano struck in the men’s side as it held off Perpetual Help, 25-22, 15-25, 25-22, 25-22, to complete an eight-game sweep.
With a 7-1 slate, the Lady Altas jumped from third to a share of No. 1 with the fancied San Sebastian and St. Benilde.
But Perpetual Help took the No. 1 seed with the highest tiebreak score using FIVB (World Volleyball Federation) quotient computation.
St. Benilde earlier trounced Mapua, 25-6, 25-6, 25-7.
The San Sebastian lady tossers ended up No. 2 in the tournament backed by Asics and Mikasa.
Letran finished its elimination round campaign with a 5-3 (win-loss) record to gain the last semis berth.
Meanwhile, volley action resumes on Jan. 10.
Defending men’s champion Letran and San Beda are the other semifinalists.
In juniors’ action, last year’s winner Perpetual Help beat Arellano U, 25-6, 25-10, 25-12, to complete a seven-game sweep.
The other semifinalists in the high school section are Arellano U, San Sebastian and EAC.
