MANILA—Adamson U broke loose from a second place tie after dumping overachieving National U in a hardfought 26-28, 25-21, 25-22, 25-20 victory Sunday in the 73rd UAAP Women's Volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan.

But still, the Lady Falcons remain at the rear view behind pacesetting University of Santo Tomas and De La Salle U who still boast unblemished records after posting easy victories against University of the East and Far Eastern U last Saturday respectively.

The Tigresses wiped out the listless Lady Warriors, 25-7, 25-14, 25-10 while the DLSU Lady Spikers needed four sets to overcome still-winless Lady Tamaraws, 25-15, 20-25, 25-12, 25-20.

Veteran Pau Soriano, who is on her fourth playing year, shone anew with 18 points on 17 kills and one block while skipper Angela Benting assisted with 14 markers for the Lady Falcons, who are now 4-2.

“We had weak serves and exchanges in the first set,” said Soriano.

Judy Caballejo, meanwhile, atoned for her usually-error prone ways as she topscored for the Tigresses with 16 points made up of 15 hits while league-leading scorer Aiza Maizo had 11.

The Lady Warriors lacked the intensity all through out as they failed to draw solid support from the team's leading attacker, Kristel Rosale, who only wound up with six measly points.

Ateneo also had a good year-ender as it snapped its three-game losing skid after defeating the also-struggling University of the Philippines, 25-18, 25-20, 25-20.

File Cainglet forefronted the attack for the Lady Eagles, who are toting a 2-4 slate, with 14 points built around 11 attacks and three blocks.

The Lady Maroons had their moments at the start of each set, even taking the lead several times, but were always outsmarted by the Lady Eagles during the crucial stretches of the match.
