RESURGENT Ateneo and Adamson seek to complete the semifinals cast as they tackle separate foes today in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan. Currently the league’s hottest squad with a six-game winning streak, the Lady Eagles will try to avenge their first round upset loss to University of the East in the main game at 4 p.m.
The Lady Falcons, on the other hand, are hoping to shut the door for National University to enter the ‘Final Four’ via the backdoor in the first match at 2 p.m.
Victories by Ateneo and Adamson would formalize their entry to semis along with league-leading La Salle (10-1) and defending champion University of Santo Tomas (8-3).
Holding identical 7-4 records, the Lady Eagles and the Lady Falcons are enjoying a three-game advantage over the Lady Bulldogs (4-7) in the race for the last ‘Final Four’ slot.
The only chance for NU, which has lost its last three matches, to forge a playoff for the No. 4 slot is to sweep its remaining three games, and hope that either Ateneo or Adamson would not attain eight wins.
The games are important for the Lady Eagles and the Lady Falcons as the two squads are trailing just a game behind the Tigresses in the hunt for the second ‘twice-to-beat’ bonus in the semifinals.
