University of Santo Tomas made sure it was not left behind as it sealed the second slot in the final four after cruising past University of the East, 25-14, 25-18, 25-17, Saturday in the 73rd UAAP Women’s Volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan.

Pacesetting De La Salle University, who put its first foot in the semifinals last Wednesday, posted a similarly easy victory over National University, 25-12, 25-14, 25-17 in the first game.

Top MVP candidate Aiza Maizo banged in a game-high 13 points while hard hitting spikers Judy Caballejo and Maika Ortiz added 11 markers more to the Tigresses’ eighth victory that went with three defeats.

Jacqueline Alarca and Abigal Marano combined for 22 points for the Lady Spikers, whose only dent in the armor came from the one-game disqualification handed down by the UAAP boards.

The Lady Warriors, who actually have already surpassed last season’s win-loss record, sunk even lower into the standings and saw their chances of making it to the final four go dimmer.

Meanwhile, the usually-embattled Lady Bulldogs are slowly losing grip of their fervent battle to make it to the final four this season as they drop nearly three games behind third placers Ateneo and Adamson.

The Lady Falcons and the Lady Eagles are hoping to improve their standings as the elimination phase nears its end as they take on University of the Philippines and Far Eastern University at 2pm and 4pm, respectively.
