Season 72 finalists University of Santo Tomas and Far Eastern U booked the first two semifinals berths after beating separate opponents on Saturday in the 73rd UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City. The Emil Lontoc-mentored Tigers, the defending four-time champions, clinched their 10th win in 11 outings with a 25-8, 25-13, 25-22 straight-sets victory against the Ateneo Blue Eagles.
Jayson Ramos had 14 points while teammate James Pecana scored 13 for UST, which handed Ateneo its eighth loss in 11 games.
FEU, meanwhile, remains undefeated after a 25-14, 25-19, 25-23 trouncing of Adamson in the other men’s match.
“We’re not thinking of sweeping all our games in the elimination round. I just told my players to take it one game at a time," said Tamaraws coach George Pascua in Filipino.
The trio of Nestor Molate, Rodolfo Labrador Jr. and Karl Ian De La Calzada combined for 36 points for the Tamaraws, who last won the UAAP crown in 2006.
