MANILA, Philippines — Far Eastern University stretched its unbeaten run to 10 games after easily dispatching University of the East, 25-17, 25-9, 25-16, on Wednesday in the 73rd UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

The Tamaraws, whose last title came in 2007, needed just 59 minutes to beat the Red Warriors and move four victories shy of completing a 14-game sweep of the double-round eliminations.

However, there won’t be incentive should they complete a sweep as the league will hold a Final Four round regardless of the outcome.

Running a strong second is four-peat seeking University of Santo Tomas with a 9-1 slate while La Salle (6-3) and University of the Philippines (5-5) are third and fourth, respectively.

Nestor Molate and Karl Ian dela Calzada led the Morayta-based squad with 13 points each while team captain Rodolfo Labrador and Kirk Beliran combined for 16 points in the victory.

Honer Lauresta scored six points for UE, which fell further in the cellar with a 1-9 slate.

Meanwhile, San Sebastian goes for its sixth straight championship when it battles Letran today in Game 2 of their NCAA women’s volleyball finals at The Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Stags downed the Lady Knights, 25-14, 21-25, 25-21, 25-18, on Monday at the Emilio Aguinaldo College gym in Manila.
