MANILA, Philippines – The UAAP will look into the case of two players from current women’s volleyball pacesetter La Salle, whose participation in another league could lead to possible forfeiture of some of the Lady Archers’s wins in Season 73. The board will meet on Wednesday to discuss the case of Lady Archers Clarisse Yeung and Carmela Garbin, who reportedly played in the ongoing World Citi Colleges Viking Cup Open Invitational volleyball tournament. The UAAP bars its players from competing in another competition while the league is ongoing.
La Salle itself volunteered the information and came forward to “consult the UAAP board and seek its opinion and advice.”
In a letter to the board last Friday, DLSU’s board representative Bro. Bernie Oca also said DLSU “shall not field our involved athletes in the ongoing UAAP Season 73 volleyball tournament pending determination of the effect on their playing status, and further accepts sanctions, if any, due to their actions.”
Yeung and Garbin played four games in the first round for unbeaten DLSU (7-0).
In the meantime, the UAAP announced in a statement that “Team standings for women’s volleyball will remain the same until the UAAP Board meets on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011.”
