GLENN Capacio said returning to coaching isn’t one of his priorities right now since quitting his job as head coach of the Far Eastern University Tamaraws two months ago.

Capacio said he’d rather focus on helping Louie Alas and the Philippine Patriots get better in their aim to retain their ASEAN Basketball League crown.

“Sa ngayon, hindi muna ako babalik sa amateur coaching,” said Capacio, one of Alas’s assistant coaches.

Capacio quit as FEU coach a few days after the Ateneo Blue Eagles beat the Tamaraws for the men’s basketball championship in the 73rd University Athletic Association of the Philippines via a 2-0 sweep.

Capacio didn’t finish his coaching chores with the Tams in Game 2, when his blood pressure shot up during the half and he was immediately rushed to Medical City for treatment.

Doctors later advised him to take a long rest before returning to full-time coaching. Capacio then quit as FEU coach, but school officials, led by team owner Anton Montinola has not accepted his offer to resign.

In his absence, his assistants Louie Gonzales and Richie Ticzon have been taking turns in mentoring the Tamaraws.

It was Ticzon, who called the shots for the Tams during the UniGames in Dumaguete held last October.

Next UAAP season, the Tamaraws will enjoy an almost intact roster and are expected to be more competitive.

The Tams will lose big man Paul Sanga to graduation next year, but will still have top gun and league most valuable player RR Garcia, last year’s Rookie of the Year Terrence Romeo, slotman Reil Cervantes, Aldrech Ramos and JR Cawaling and Cameroonian Pipo Noundou.

Five rookies will also join the team, led by the explosive pair of Mike Tolomia and Russell Escoto, who also play for the national 18-under team.
