Houston Rockets center Yao Ming is expected to miss a week with a strained tendon in his left ankle after test results showed no additional problems, an NBA source with knowledge of the results told Yahoo! Sports. Yao left Wednesday’s road loss to the Washington Wizards with the injury in the first quarter and did not return. He underwent an MRI Thursday.

Yao missed all of last season after having extensive surgery to repair his broken foot. He returned this season, but has been limited to 24 minutes a game. The Rockets also have kept him from playing in back-to-back games.
Yao is averaging 10.2 points. 5.4 rebounds and 18 minutes in five games. The Rockets will rely on Luis Scola, Chuck Hayes, Brad Miller and Jordan Hill during Yao’s absence. The Rockets’ next game is Friday night in Indiana.
