MIAMI – Miami Heat forward Chris Bosh will not travel to New York for Thursday's NBA game against the Knicks because of a sprained left ankle and it appears his absence will stretch beyond two weeks. Bosh, hurt on January 15 in a loss to the Chicago Bulls, has an unclear timetable to return to a star-studded Heat lineup that also includes LeBron James and Dwyane Wade.
"It's getting better," Bosh said. "We're just trying to see how everything reacts. I'm really not used to playing the waiting game but I have no choice."
Bosh, averaging 18.6 points and 8.2 rebounds, joined Miami this season to be part of the all-star trio and try and secure an NBA crown.
But Bosh also is not expected to play Friday against Detroit.
His status remains uncertain for the last two games in a rough stretch of four games in five days that also includes games at Oklahoma City on Sunday and at home against NBA-worst side Cleveland on Monday.
"It's too early to tell," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said.
Sprains of his type often sideline players for six weeks or more. but Bosh is patient about his plight.
"Every day it is getting better," Bosh said. "I never get frustrated. Getting frustrated doesn't help. I don't like to be frustrated. I like to have a good time. I like to be happy.
"I keep that in mind when I'm doing therapy, when I'm getting treatment - it's just one step closer to getting back out there."
With Bosh out and the Heat using a smaller lineup, James will see duty at power forward and others will have a chance to show they can contribute as well.
"We want C.B. back as quick as possible, but it has given guys an opportunity to play with confidence," James said. "We want them to play at a high level and play with confidence. It's a great opportunity."
Miami stands atop the Southeast division at 31-13 and ranks second overall to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference.
